W. Edwards Deming, this unassuming statistician from Wyoming, focuses here on intrinsic motivation of individual human resources to transform industry through cooperation. He says "Extrinsic motivation (traditional management by objectives - performance appraisal) in the extreme, replaces the intrinsic motivation we are born with. Self esteem, dignity, cooperation, curiosity, a yearning for learning, these attributes are high at the beginning of life, but are gradually crushed out, diminished, year-by-year throughout life...Why crush them out? We have retreated from the high ground and got in bed with the profiters on wall street. Correction Corporation of America and the Geo Group are 1) and 2) in the private prison industries. Wall street loves it as millions of dollars of profit is being made off the labor of prisoners. Why should you care as long as Target sells you the TV at the right price.
